La Mongie provides one of the most direct access points to the Col du Tourmalet, a legendary ascent on the Tour de France. From the resort, the road climbs rapidly towards the summit, featuring a continuous sequence of hairpin bends and high mountain scenery. This location makes it a strategic base for cyclists looking to tackle one of the Pyrenees' greatest challenges, while remaining at the heart of a road network connecting the valleys of Campan, Barèges and Haut-Adour. Excursions can therefore be organised around long climbs or more complete circuits within the massif.
Road cycling finds an iconic landscape here with the Tourmalet pass, whose steady gradients and high-altitude sections make it a global benchmark. Gravel cyclists explore the summer pastures and pastoral paths that stretch above the resort, in an open and mineral environment. Mountain biking allows access to more technical trails descending towards the Campan valley or running along the mountain slopes, with often challenging high-mountain routes. All of this combines to create a playground where elevation gain structures every outing.
The Col du Tourmalet is the central climb of the sector, with its long, consistent gradients and an altitude of 2,115 metres. The ascent towards Barèges offers a gentler alternative on the other side, while the roads of the Campan valley allow for the creation of challenging loops in the heart of the Bigorre massif.
The summer pastures around La Mongie, the paths leading up to the heights of the Pic du Midi, and the pastoral routes on the Campan side offer varied terrain for gravel biking and mountain biking. The routes alternate between open areas, smooth sections, and more technical passages at altitude.
