The Lioran area boasts some of the most varied routes in Cantal, with itineraries suitable for both sporty outings and extended explorations. From the resort, roads quickly ascend towards the Plomb du Cantal, the massif's highest point, while other routes descend towards Murat or Saint-Jacques-des-Blats. This star-shaped layout allows for the creation of loops where each excursion traverses different atmospheres, between high-altitude forests, open plateaus, and secondary pass crossings typical of the Cantal massif.
Le Lioran is situated at the heart of the Cantal's great climbs, with direct access to the massif's defining mountain ranges. The Pas de Peyrol and Puy Mary are accessible via routes that combine narrow roads and open panoramas over the volcanic valleys. Le Plomb du Cantal is another unmissable ascent, accessible from the resort and offering a wide view over the entire massif. These climbs form a coherent network that structures cycling outings around Le Lioran.
Cycling routes in Le Lioran find a terrain punctuated by regular climbs and fast descents between the valleys of the Cantal. The routes towards Murat, Thiézac or Saint-Jacques-des-Blats offer varied profiles while remaining in an accessible mountain environment. The ridge roads provide continuous panoramas of the Auvergne volcanoes and the massif's summer pastures.
The Lioran area offers a vast network of forest tracks and summer pasture paths particularly suited to gravel biking and mountain biking. The routes alternate between dense forests, smoother sections, and more technical parts on the volcanic slopes. This diversity allows for exploration of the Cantal massif away from main roads.
