Le Cap Ferret offers a unique cycling experience thanks to its double maritime facade. On one side, the ocean beaches with their long wild stretches, on the other, the villages of the Bassin with their oyster ports and typical huts.
The cycle paths cross the peninsula in a very natural setting, mainly between forest and dunes. You often ride in the shade of pine trees, with regular access to beaches or villages, which makes it easy to vary your stops throughout the day.
Cap Ferret stretches for several kilometres between Bélisaire and the point, with a succession of villages and neighbourhoods spread along the main road. During peak season, this road can be very busy and traffic quickly becomes complicated.
The bicycle overcomes these constraints by easily connecting the different points of interest. Travel between the oyster villages, beaches, and ports becomes fluid, without depending on traffic jams or parking, which is often saturated in the summer.
The cycle routes in Cap Ferret are varied and allow you to discover several different atmospheres on the same outing. The main cycle path crosses the peninsula from north to south, passing through oyster farming villages such as Piraillan, Le Canon or L’Herbe.
On the ocean side, access to wild beaches offers a break in a preserved natural setting, with long stretches of sand bordered by dunes and forest. On the Bassin side, the atmosphere is calmer, with traditional ports and viewpoints overlooking Arcachon and the Dune du Pilat.
Cycling is undoubtedly the most suitable way to explore Cap Ferret in good conditions. The terrain is flat, the distances are reasonable, and the cycle paths allow for safe travel between the various villages and beaches.
The electric bike can be a real comfort for cycling around the whole peninsula in the same day or for tackling several areas without effort, particularly between the tip of Cap Ferret and the villages of the Bassin.
