You're planning a day's cycling in the Landes, but you've no idea what you need to pack to make the trip the best it can be. This article is for you! Whether you're with family, friends or on your own, don't neglect these "essentials" to ensure your excursions go as smoothly as possible.
Helmet
Although helmets are not compulsory for anyone over the age of 12, they should not be overlooked, because as well as ensuring your safety, they will give you a greater sense of confidence if you have to ride on stretches of road open to traffic, or if you're riding in the woods on unmade paths.
Flask
A water bottle is an essential item for keeping well hydrated during a day's cycling. Ideally, attach it to the frame of your bike, so it's easy to keep handy. Alternatively, pack a water bag. Inserted in a bag, you can drink without having to stop during your ride.
Repair materials
Pack a puncture repair kit in your rucksack or pannier so that you can continue your ride after all. Pump, inner tube, patches, tyre levers, oil and spoke spanner are your essentials.
First aid kit
For minor injuries, make sure you take a first-aid kit with you. Compresses, plasters, dressings, disinfectant, scissors, paracetamol, physiological saline solution, hydro-alcoholic gel, cream for mosquito bites, massage oil, tweezers... There are plenty of essentials to take with you for quick treatment.
Power supply
If you get the munchies, take some cereal bars with you to give yourself a little boost during the effort.
Anti-theft device
No more hassle, with the bike lock you can secure your bike when you stop and make sure it's completely safe.
Windbreaker
Glasses
Essential for protecting you from the sun, sunglasses also protect your eyes from wind and insects.
Identity documents
We recommend that you also take your identity papers and health insurance card with you. Also, remember to take some pocket money with you if you want to stop for something to eat, for example, and enjoy a break.
Mobile phone
To warn anyone in case of a problem, please don't forget your phone. You can also activate your GPS to find your way if you're following a specific route. You'll also have the chance to capture your outing on film.
